A Brooklyn man who watched kiddie porn on his home computer and conducted video chats with underage girls was sentenced to 7 years of supervised release plus time served – all five days of it, the New York Post reported.
US District Court Judge Jack B. Weinstein claimed putting the man, identified only as “R.V.,” in prison would deprive his children of a “loving father and role model.”
The child porn R.V. likes and admitted to downloading and watching included images of men assaulting girls as young as 3.
Putting R.V. in prison “will cause serious harm to his young children by depriving them of a loving father and role model, and will strip R.V. of the opportunity to heal through continued sustained treatment and the support of his close family,” Weinstein reportedly wrote in a 98-page memo explaining the sentence. Weinstein also emphasized that he took what he called “shifting societal norms” on “acceptable” pornography into account in issuing the sentence.
Weinstein reportedly has previously seen two of his child-porn sentences reversed by the US Court of Appeals because those sentences were so far below federal sentencing guidelines.
