An angry young married yeshiva student who is a follower of Ashkenazi haredi non-hasidic rebel faction leader Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach tried to force his way into the home of mainstream Ashkenazi haredi non-hasidic leader 101-year-old Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman Friday afternoon just before Shabbat.
Steinman’s followers stopped the angry young man, who they feared would hurt Steinman, who in turn was lighting Hanukkah candles at the time of the incident, Yeshiva World reported based on a report in Kikar HaShabbat.
Police were called (apparently after Shabbat) and the young man was brought into the police station in Bnei Brak where Steinman lives for questioning Sunday.
The young man was apparently upset because Steinman allowed haredi members of Knesset to support a modified draft law that eventually might see some haredi yeshiva students drafted into the IDF.
Even though the amended draft law essentially sets up a situation in which any government that includes haredi political parties would exempt haredi yeshiva students from the draft, Auerbach’s faction demands that haredi yeshiva students always be exempted, no matter the national need or any haredi role in a governing coalition.
People who witnessed the young man’s attempt to harass Steinman
are asked to call police in Bnei Brak and report what they saw.
In a similar incident in 2013, Steinman was assaulted by a deranged yeshiva student linked to Auerbach.
