Hundreds of people, many of them extreme right-wing West Bank Jewish settlers and their sympathizers, including members of Kahanist organizations and several Chabad messianists, rioted in Jerusalem Sunday night to protest what they claim is the torture by Israel’s internal security service (commonly known as the Shabak or the Shin Bet) of three detainees suspected of the arson-murders of three members of a West Bank Palestinian family in July, Arutz Sheva reported.
Many of the rioters were minors.
The three detainees are all young West Bank Jewish settlers believed to be members or leaders of The Revolt, a Jewish terror cell whose aim is to spark societal unrest through which a coup can be staged to overthrow Israel’s government.
During the riots, the crowd blocked the entrance to the city near the Chords Bridge.
Rabbi Dov Lior, the state-employed chief rabbi of Hebron and Kiryat Arba who is also a leader of right-wing Jewish settlers and a well known racist, spoke at the protest and urged the rioters on.
"It cannot be that Jews are cruel to Jews. Cruelty is being allowed to run rampant,” Lior, who backs summary executions without trial of detained Palestinian terrorists and who supports Shin Bet torture of Palestinian prisoners, said.
"There are people who feel the pain of their brothers," Lior said. "We are blessed that we have a healthy generation of young people like this [who protest and riot to support fellow extremists].”
Four people were reportedly arrested during the riots.
Arutz Sheva reported that one of its reporters was attacked by police during the riot.
Shin Bet torture of the three detained suspects has been so harsh that one of the detainees allegedly attempted suicide.
Audio allegedly of that detainee begging for mercy was leaked today. It appears to show the Shin Bet burned the detainee’s hands, kept him awake all night, and beat his back so severely he needed medical attention.
The Shin Bet continues to deny the allegations.
The three detainees were also allegedly denied the right to light Hanukkah candles and at least one was allegedly denied medical treatment after being beaten during his arrest. One of the three detainees was also allegedly denied clean underwear (apparently after he soiled his only pair during interrogation or torture).
Left-wing civil rights groups, frequently the targets of extreme right-wingers’ wrath and incitement to violence, called for the Shin Bet to be investigated for the alleged torture.
