Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Chabad daughter and her family have moved to the über-haredi Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim, JNi reported based on a report in Ma’ariv.
The 36-year-old Noa Roth is the only child of Netanyahu and his first wife, Dr. Miriam (Miki) Weitzman, who Netanyahu met in Boston in 1972. Noa was born in 1979, shortly before her parents divorced.
Netanyahu’s current wife Sara, is his third. He was married to Fleur Cates from 1981 to 1984. Netanyahu has two sons, Yair and Avner, with Sara. His marriage with Cates was childless.
Roth’s husband is Daniel Roth, a businessman. The couple have two children, who are Netanyahu’s only grandchildren.
Mea Shearim is the home of Edah Haredit, the vehemently anti-Zionist haredi umbrella organization. It is also home to a large contingent of the extremist anti-Zionist group Neturei Karta and of the haredi Sicari street gang. The heavily hasidic neighborhood is the center of violent attacks against haredi IDF soldiers and against police. Last week, dozens of Mea Shearim-based haredi drug traffickers were arrested in a police sting.
Netanyahu downplays his relationship to Roth, and there is no mention of her in Netanyahu's official government bio. Even so, he and wife and sons attended the brit milah circumcision of one of Roth's sons in 2011.
Netanyahu is not Orthodox. Roth was not born into Orthodoxy and became Orthodox and Chabad only later in her life.
