An Israeli court ordered the release of a Jewish terror suspect to house arrest yesterday after an investigation cleared him of the infamous Douma (Duma) arson-murders that killed an 18-month-old Palestinian boy and his sleeping parents in July, the JTA reported.
The suspect, who is not being named because of a court order, is 18-years-old. He was reportedly one of six Jewish terror suspects detained under administrative detention who appeared Monday in Petach Tikvah Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutors reportedly intend to indict the 18-year-old for an attack on an Arab teen two years ago near an illegal West Bank Jewish outpost.
He was held for 29 days in administrative detention and was not allowed to meet with his attorney – who is linked to the late racist extremist Rabbi Meir Kahane – for the first 18 days of that period, something that is legal under Israeli law in some cases.
Some or all of the other five detainees were expected to be indicted for the Douma arson-murders this week, but prosecutors did not file a declaration of intent to do so during yesterday’s court hearing.
Much of Israel's hard right-wing alleges the detainees have been tortured by Israel's internal security service the Shin Bet. The Shin Bet and the government denies this.
