“I have seen miracles and wonders from God! The war against those trying to uproot all that is dear to us continues… We are doing what we must. We are silent. We do not speak out for each thing we say is misinterpreted. We do not utilize the tools available to others. But I know how much my colleagues and I fight on behalf of Torah students."

Leading Haredi Politician Equates Drafting Haredi Yeshiva Students To Greek Persecutions Of Jews At Time Of The Maccabees

According to the most important non-hasidic Ashkenazi haredi politician in the Knesset, Israel’s secular and Zionist Orthodox leaders are no different than the Syrian-Greeks and the Hellenized Jews the Maccabees fought against almost 2,200 years ago.
At a Hanukkah gathering Sunday night in Jerusalem the head of the Knesset Finance Committee, Rabbi Moshe Gafni of the Ashkenazi haredi United Torah Judaism Party, equated the Maccabee’s war against the Syrian-Greeks and Hellenism with the haredi community’s fight against the IDF draft today, Yeshiva World reported.
“Today’s battle continues…” Gafni said after first referencing Hanukkah. He noted haredi yeshiva students would have already received draft notices if not for what the haredi community and haredi politicians like him did to stop that from happening.
“We are not just sitting around idly,” Gani continued, “because the battle is not over – it continues, as do our efforts to protect yeshiva students. I saw [internal government] papers that indicated [government financial] assistance for yeshivas was to go down to NIS 70 [$18 per student] per year. This is without mentioning plans to eliminate [the government’s] supplemental income payments [i.e., a form of welfare constructed to disproportionately benefit haredim]. We restored this and the yeshiva budgeting…this money was ours and they took it from us!” Gafni insisted.
Gafni specifically blamed the Zionist Orthodox HaBayit HaYehudi Party for redirecting government money from haredi schools to Zionist Orthodox schools during the previous government and then “refusing” to give it back when the new government was formed earlier this year. But now the money is back in haredi hands, Gafni said.
“I have seen miracles and wonders from God!” Gafni exclaimed. “The war against those trying to uproot all that is dear to us continues… We are doing what we must. We are silent. We do not speak out for each thing we say is misinterpreted. We do not utilize the tools available to others. But I know how much my colleagues and I fight on behalf of Torah students,” Gafni reportedly said.
