Ukrainian border police arrested a Gur (Gerrer) hasidic couple from Israel after finding more than two pounds of marijuana in their luggage.
The couple was arrested in Boryspil Airport near Kiev Sunday as they waited to board a flight to Israel, the JTA reported based on a report by Israel News 10, which primarily covers the haredi community. According to that report the marijuana may have been planted on the couple as part of a custody battle the woman is fighting against her ex-husband, with whom she has nine children.

The marriage counselor was in Kiev for a job interview at with a haredi organization. His fiancée flew to the Ukraine with him while her nine children stayed behind with relatives in Israel.
The couple reportedly denies they were smuggling the drug and insist the marijuana was planted in their luggage.
A neighbor of the woman told News 10 unidentified men arrived at the woman’s Bnei Brak home and cleaned out all the woman’s possessions before it was known she had been arrested. The men reportedly told that neighbor the woman “will be gone for a while.”
