Carmi Gillon, a former head of Israel’s internal security service commonly known as the Shin Bet or the Shabak said in a TV interview Friday night that the right-wing Orthodox terror underground responsible for the Douma (Duma) arson-murders poses a greater threat to Israel than the right-wing Zionist Orthodox extremists active in the run-up to the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.

“We’re at a worse point than before the assassination of Rabin,” Gillon, who headed the Shin Bet when Rabin was assassinated, told Israel’s Channel 2 News, the Times of Israel reported. Gillon also reportedly called today’s Orthodox right-wing terrorists “a professional underground in every regard.”

According to the Times of Israel, in its Hebrew language edition, Haaretz reported that of the three alleged Jewish terrorists detained by the Shin Bet in connection with the Douma arson-murders, two of them are sons of mainstream Zionist Orthodox rabbis who are respected in the Zionist Orthodox community. One of the rabbis leads a pre-military Zionist Orthodox Yeshiva course. The other heads a widely known Zionist Orthodox organization.

As many as 100 far-right Orthodox terror suspects may currently be in jail, under administrative detention, facing other legal proceedings, or under restriction orders.

Channel 10 reported that indictments in for the arson-murders, which took place in the West Bank Palestinian village of Douma in July, could be issued as early as Tuesday.
