An unspecified number of unidentified Jews, apparently all teens, have been arrested for their alleged the West Bank arson attack that killed three members of the Dawabsheh family this summer, Ha’aretz reported. The arrests were made some time ago, but a gag order blocking any release of information or publishing notice of the arrests or details of the investigation directly leading to them was in place until yesterday, when it was partially lifted.
In September, Israel’s security apparatus discovered the identities of the accused murderers, but no charges were filed for reasons still protected by judicial gag order.
However, three Jews – a grandson of the late extremist Rabbi Meir Kahane, Meir Ettinger, who was allegedly plotting to violently overthrow the government; Mordechai Meyer, who allegedly tried to burn down the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem; and Eviatar Slonim, who allegedly burned a home in the Palestinian town of Khirbet Abu Falah – were put under administrative detention after the murders. None of the three young men have been publicly linked to attack on the Dawabsheh family by security forces or police.
The July 31 arson attack on the Dawabsheh family home in Duma (Douma) immediately killed 18-month-old Ali. Ali’s mother Reham, his father Sa'ad, and his four-year-old brother Ahmed were all critically injured in the fire. Reham and Sa'ad died from those injuries. Ahmed is still hospitalized in serious condition.
Graffiti reading “Vengeance" and “Long live the Messiah" was spray painted on the house at the time of the attack, and a nearby empty house was burned, as well.
An eyewitness saw four men fleeing toward a nearby Jewish settlement.
The IDF labeled the attack Jewish terrorism.
