One of the victims of today’s Palestinian terror knifing attack at the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City was Rabbi Reuven Biermacher, a teacher in Aish HaTorah’s Spanish-language program.
Aish HaTorah is a haredi ba’al teshuva yeshiva, meaning its students grew up largely in non-Orthodox homes and became Orthodox later, usually during their college years.
According to reports (here and here) in Yeshiva World, Biermacher, a married father of seven children, taught his morning classes and was walking out of the Old City through the Jaffa Gate when he was killed by friendly fire from police.
However, mainstream Israeli media identified the man killed by friendly fire as Ofer Ben-Ari, a 46-year-old Israeli, and reported Biermacher was killed by a terrorist.
A third victim of the attack is in serious condition in a local hospital with multiple stab wounds.
