Rabbis and Shele Covlin's family initially blocked an autopsy of the Shele's body, which likely played the major role in delaying the arrest of Rod Covlin by more than five years.

Almost five years after police now believe Roderick “Rod” Covlin murdered his beautiful wife Shele Danishevsky Covlin in a bathtub in her Upper West Side apartment, Rod Colvin has finally been arrested for her murder.
The arrest took place this morning, Newsday reported. Rod Covlin was charged with murder.
His wife’s death was originally believed to be accidental, in large part because Misaskim, the haredi organization that prevent autopsies and arranges funerals, local Orthodox activists and her family initially blocked an autopsy of Shele’s body. Her body was exhumed four months later and her death ruled a homicide.
The couple was divorcing at the time the murder took place.
Rod Covlin denied killing her.
After five years of marriage the couple, which had two children together, split up. He moved to an apartment across the hall in their tony building. The divorce was by most accounts acrimonious.
Shele Covlin was supposed to meet her attorney on January 1, 2010 – the day after she was murdered – to cut her husband out of her will.
She was worth about $4 million. About half of her estate was still slated to go to Rod and the other half was slated to go to their two young children.
The couple’s 9-year-old daughter found her mother dead in the tub.
After her body was exhumed and autopsied in April 2010, medical examiners who finally were able to examine the body found she had been strangled.
Custody of the children was eventually awarded to Shele’s parents.
