Haredim Smear NY State Assemblyman Working To Protect Firefighters And Children

Sleazy hasidic PR flack Yossi Gestetner's OJPAC has a released a new video smear NY State Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski for using "a Yeshiva building outside his district as a negative backdrop in a media appearance."

But what Gestetner and his equally sleazy counterparts won't tell you is that there are literally dozens of haredi yeshivas, almost all hasidic, that are in violation of local and state safety, health, and building codes. Many of them are illegally occupied. The problem is so bad local firefighters have organized a watch group and have spent years trying to get corrupt local politicians and courts to take action against the violators, and firefighters' fears and their anger has been widely reported in local media.

On top of that, hasidim have a notorious disrespect for these codes, and illegally cut-up homes are a serious problem in the hasidic community as a result. For example, several years ago, the problem was so bad in the hasidic village of New Square in Rockland County, New York, that firefighters finally had to threaten not to answer fire calls from the village to bring a measure of positive change.

But the real reason OJPAC issued that video likely isn't housing – it's Zebrowski's new bill that would require private schools like haredi yeshivas to teach math, science, English, civics and American history, and would provide for the first time a state enforcement mechanism with real teeth. And that could mean haredi yeshivas that don't adequately teach secular studies – like, for example, the Satmar yeshivas Gestetner is a product of – could be shut down.

And so, only one day after Zebrowski formally announced his new bill, Gestetner and his OJPAC cronies went into smear mode:
