A haredi IDF soldier trying to pray was assaulted by an unknown number of other haredim in a synagogue in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood of Jerusalem this morning.
According to a brief report in Yeshiva World, police were called and quickly to responded. They briefly detained one haredi man, who was released shortly afterward. No arrests are known to have been made.
The soldier was apparently only lightly injured, in part because a group of students from the nearby Mir Yeshiva, the largest haredi yeshiva in the world, were praying in the synagogue at the time of the attack and surrounded the soldier to protect him from the attackers, allowing the soldier to finish his prayers.
