Accused serial pedophile Malka Leifer is supposed to be on house arrest in the haredi West Bank settlement of Immanuel while she fights extradition to Australia for a string of alleged rapes and sex assaults against young teen girls.
Leifer lives in Immanuel with her husband and their children, but the apartments the family live in appear to be unoccupied. No lights were on several times when a local source checked, and there is no sukkah at the apartments or the nearby synagogue. A huge water container, which would normally be full and sitting inside the Leifer's kitchen area, is sitting in the building's hallway, abandoned.
It's true that Israeli courts, which are notoriously lax when dealing with Jews, especially haredim, often define things like house arrest very loosely, and someone on "house arrest" in Immanuel could have permission to, say, take a vacation to Jerusalem or even Sefat or Eilat.
But people who are flight risks, as Leifer has already shown herself to be, and who are fighting extradition are not good candidates for lax treatment from the courts.
So where in the world is Malka Leifer and why was she apparently allowed to leave Immanuel?
