The Orthodox Union (OU) and the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) have issued a joint statement on storm preparedness, Shabbat and holiday observance, and your sukkah as a large storm with high winds approaches the greater New York City area.
The NYC-New Jersey-Connecticut area is expected to get heavy rains with winds as high as 50 mph.
That means your sukkah can turn into missiles and kill or maim people. It also means going to synagogue may be too dangerous.
The OU and RCA have issued joint guidelines detailing when OU shuls will be open, when they'll be closed, when you should take down your sukkah, what you should do now to prepare for likely power outages on Shabbat and Yom Tov, and much more.
