Yochanan Levitansky, a 28-year-old Orthodox Jew from a prominent Chabad family, was arrested with another 28-year-old man, Miguel Blanchette, for possession of heroin and crack cocaine with the intent to sell, the Danbury Daily Voice reported last month.
The two men had heroin and crack cocaine packaged for street sale in their possession as well as a large amount of cash at the time the arrests were made in a Danbury, Connecticut hotel.
The police department’s Special Investigations Division first obtained a court-authorized search warrant for Levitansky, who had reportedly been the subject of a narcotics investigation for several months, according to police.
They watched Levitansky, familiarized themselves with his alleged drug operation, watched him make several alleged narcotics sales, and then arrested him with Blanchette.
Levitansky was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, sale of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. He was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
Blanchette was identically charged and was reportedly ordered held on $20,000 bond.
In 2009, Levitansky pleaded guilty to defrauding people on eBay out of hundreds of thousands of dollars and was sentenced to one year plus one day in federal prison. (And here.)
In June 2015, Levitansky was arrested driving a car stolen from a car rental agency. His passenger was arrested for possession of crack cocaine.
Levitansky was charged with first-degree larceny in that case and was released on a $10,000 bond.
Levitansky is the first cousin of Rabbi Sholom Doyber (dovBer) Levitansky, who was arrested on child sex abuse charges in California last week.
