The notoriously racist fans of Israeli soccer club Beitar Jerusalem chanted the name of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassin in homage Monday night in Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium Monday night during a game against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ha’aretz reported based on footage aired by Israel’s Channel 2.
Yigal Amir assassinated Yitzhak Rabin 20 years ago this week and remains in prison.
Beitar Jerusalem’s fans are so violent and so racist that the teams owner decided to sell the team because of them this summer.
The “La Familia” group of Beitar Jerusalem fans have been linked to a series of hate crimes and were suspected in the gruesome hate crime murder last summer of a 16-year-old Arab boy from East Jerusalem, Mohammed Abu Khdeir.
In 2013, upset that Beitar Jerusalem had signed two Chechen players, fans set the team’s offices on fire. They also waved anti-Muslim signs during games.
The year before, hundreds of Beitar Jerusalem fans savagely beat up a group of Arab employees at a Jerusalem shopping mall.
The team was originally an outgrowth of Israel’s right-wing.
