A 29-year-old haredi rabbinical student in Sullivan County, New York who allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy in 2011 shows no signs of sexual interest in children, Dr. Richard Krueger, a defense psychiatrist, testified Friday, the Times Herald-Record reported.
Krueger made that finding after evaluating Haim Boukris Monday. Krueger testified he used four different evaluation methods to make his determination. In those evaluations, Krueger asked Boukris about the alleged victim’s claims of abuse. Boukris, who maintains his innocence, denied them all. Krueger also asked Bourkis if he had any sexual fantasies involving young boys. Bourkis denied that he did.
Krueger said Boukris didn’t show signs of having those types of sexual fantasies, and Krueger testified that Bourkis was at low risk of sexually abusing boys.
“Overall, he had good insight, good judgment and good impulse control,” Krueger testified.
But Bourkis’s attorney Kenneth Gribetz failed to give Krueger’s Monday evaluation findings to the prosecution until just before the court hearing Friday. That meant that Sullivan County, New York Assistant District Attorney Eamonn Neary wasn’t able to cross examine Krueger because of that.
As a result, Sullivan County Court Judge Frank LaBuda adjourned the hearing until Wednesday.
Boukris – who was accompanied by nine supporters at the hearing – was arrested in April 2015 and charged with four felonies: three counts of predatory sexual assault against a child and one count of first-degree sexual abuse.
Boukris, and Israeli citizen and father of four children, is free on a $200,000 cash bond. His trial is slated to begin November 12.
