US soldiers were ordered to ignore rampant child rape committed by Afghan police and military commanders working with US forces. In some cases, US soldiers who intervened to protect the children (almost always boys) were reprimanded or forced out of the military, while local Afghans, upset at the rapes of their children, often turned against the US and the murder of a group of US soldiers on one US base by an Afghan teen boy may have been payback for the soldiers allowing the rapes to continue. This shameful behavior began during the Bush Administration and continued (and perhaps even increased somewhat) under President Obama.
