"…It's been 38 days since we sent the letter to the seven superintendents and to the chancellor, but other than a vague promise to investigate, no substantial action has been taken to address the issue. Meanwhile school started and without substantial improvements to the curricula, tens of thousands of boys in NY will be subjected to an education that is a far cry from what schools are supposed to provide.…"
Yaffed, the nonprofit made up of ex- (and some current) students of hasidic yeshivas in New York, sent the following email blast to supporters:
Small request, huge goal.
Your phone call will make a difference! If you are passionate about improving general education in ultra-Orthodox and Hasidic Yeshivas for the tens of thousands of boys attending them, please take 3 minutes of your day to make a phone call to the chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, Carmen Farina.
It's been 38 days since we sent the letter to the seven superintendents and to the chancellor, but other than a vague promise to investigate, no substantial action has been taken to address the issue. Meanwhile school started and without substantial improvements to the curricula, tens of thousands of boys in NY will be subjected to an education that is a far cry from what schools are supposed to provide.
You can help change that. Please grab your phone and call Chancellor Farina's office at 212-374-0200.
Please ask her to do the following:
Meet with Yaffed representatives
Conduct a serious investigation that includes unannounced inspections
Develop a procedure for continued oversight
Countless children's futures depend on you. Please don't let them down.
