New York City sanitation workers picked up the dead chickens the next morning as the NYPD watched. No Department of Health and Mental Hygiene inspectors were seen even though blood, feces and feathers covered the the public areas around the pop-up kapparot center.
The city failed to enforce any of the laws being broken by Chabad hasidim, even though what hasidim did is a danger to public health and a clear public nuisance.
The slaughter and mishandling of both live and dead birds:
Gothamist has more videos of this, as well, along with a report which points out that the Crown Heights pop-up kapparot slaughter fails to meet the basic mandatory requirements for operation of a slaughterhouse. No refrigeration equipment was visible at the pop-up center or nearby, and video clearly shows hasidim throwing large numbers of bloody birds, some still appearing to be alive, into big black plastic garbage bags that apparently were left out all night and were disposed of by city sanitation workers the following morning.
