Members of the board of the Adass Israel haredi girls school in Melbourne helped Malka Leifer, the school's then-principal, flee to Israel after child sex abuse allegations against her were made.
Under Australian law, those board members appear to have committed crimes and could be prosecuted.
But last week cops said they were not going to investigate what these board members did, despite the fact that Australia is seeking to extradite Leifer and despsite the fact that a civil court judge recently excoriated those very same board members for their roles in helping Leifer flee.
But now The Australian is reporting police have done an about face:
…Despite last Thursday emphatically ruling out a criminal investigation into the actions of individual board members [of the Adass Israel haredi girls school in Melbourne, Australia], Victoria Police yesterday changed their stand and revealed it was now under consideration.
“Police will be looking at this as a broader part of the investigation to determine whether an offence has been committed,’’ a police spokeswoman said.…
Leifer allegedly sexually abused and raped a at least eight young teenage girls from the school before she fled to Israel.
She is now under a light form of house arrest in the haredi West Bank settlement of Immanuel while she fights extradition.
