The top Bnei Brak rabbis of the non-hasidic Ashkenazi haredi Degel HaTorah faction of the haredi United Torah Judaism Party (UTJ) have lashed out against new “non-kosher” smartphones that are advertised as being compatible with “kosher” SIM cards, Yeshiva World reported.
The declaration against the new phones, signed by the top two non-hasidic Ashkenazi haredi rabbinic leaders in the world, Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman and Rabbi Yaakov Kanievsky, was published in the faction’s mouthpiece Yated Ne’eman, the largest haredi daily paper in Israel.
The rabbis reportedly called the new phones a " פריצת הגדר" (a "breach in the wall [of holiness]") and spoke about the known “churban” (massive destruction) that has resulted from haredim using rabbinically prohibited technological devices and details the spiritual destruction the rabbis claim results from ignoring their words.
