The federal civil RICO lawsuit filed by the Town of Mamakating, New York and its neighbor, the Village of Bloomingburg, against Modern Orthodox real estate developer Shalom Lamm will be dismissed, a federal judge said last week.
The racketeering suit alleged Lamm committed fraud, bribery, racketeering, voter fraud and corruption of public officials to build Chestnut Ridge in the tiny 420-person Village of Bloomingburg. Chestnut Ridge was marketed in Yiddish to hasidic Jews as Kiryas Yetev Lev, a new Satmar hasidic “shtetl.”
The JTA reported today that on August 27, Judge Katherine Forrest told the parties that she intends to grant Lamm’s request for dismissal.
