The Max Rayne Hand-in-Hand Jewish-Arab school in Jerusalem says it will file a criminal complaint with Israel Police after a threatening location identifying note was posted about it on Waze, an Israeli navigation app now owned by Google, Reuters reported.
"The Bilingual School - may their names be obliterated,” was added (in Hebrew) to the location of the Max Rayne Hand in Hand school on the heavily-used Waze map.
Waze told Reuter’s it immediately removed the inflammatory remark as soon as it was notified of it. A source at the company reportedly told Reuters the hateful entry was not a hack. Instead, it was made by an authorized user who had permission to list destinations on the Waze map. That user has now reportedly been banned.
The Max Rayne Hand-in-Hand was the target of a right-wing neo-Kahanist hate crime arson late last year. The assailants were three Sefardi haredi Jews (two of them brothers) linked to the neo-Kahanist anti-miscegenation organization Lehava.
The school’s principal, Nadia Kinani, said she had already spoken to police about the Waze incident and would file a criminal complaint.
