"…Do not support stores which operate on Shabbat or stores which are part of national chains that operate on Shabbat – even if the particular store in question is kept closed on Shabbat.Do not support shopping centers which operate on Shabbat – even if the particular store in question is closed on Shabbat.…"
The Council of Torah Sages of the hasidic Agudat Israel faction of the Ashkenazi haredi United Torah Judaism Party issued a strong warning against Shabbat "desecration" in Jerusalem and elsewhere that included the following steps haredim should take to combat it:
1. Do not support stores which operate on Shabbat or stores which are part of national chains that operate on Shabbat – even if the particular store in question is kept closed on Shabbat.
2. Do not support shopping centers which operate on Shabbat – even if the particular store in question is closed on Shabbat.
3. Do not have insurance policies with companies that invest in businesses that earn profits from violating Shabbat.
4. Establish committees for guarding Shabbat observance in Jerusalem and in all other cities to organize efforts to stop Shabbat desecration and to expose stores that violate Shabbat in order that the haredi community does not support these businesses.
5. Haredi newspapers and other haredi publications should not accept advertisements aimed at the haredi community from businesses or national chains that violate Shabbat.
6. The Mazhirei Shabbat (מזהירי השבת) groups that go out to stores on Fridays before Shabbat in an effort to politely persuade people to close their businesses for Shabbat should go back into operation.
