The Ashkenazi haredi Va’ad HaRabbonim for the Purity of the Camp (i.e., the Israeli Ashkenazi haredi national modesty squad linked to the Ashkenazi haredi United Torah Judaism Party) has issued a new ban – on viewing screens in taxis, Behadrei Haredim and other online haredi media reported.
The screens pose a serious danger to passengers, the modesty squad says, and because of that alleged “danger,” it ordered haredim to avoid taxis with viewing screes and instead only use so-called “kosher taxis.”
A growing number of taxis have these small flat screens and the modesty squad’s rabbis say the ads displayed on them are unacceptable for modesty reasons.
The modesty squad believes that when taxi drivers realize haredi passengers will not ride with them because of the screens, the drivers will have them removed. Therefore the modesty squad issued a ban on using taxis with these screens to drive the message home to taxi companies and taxi drivers that only ‘kosher’ taxis are acceptable.
