Pashkvils (wall posters) in the haredi city of Betar Illit threaten three members of the city council’s opposition faction with “nidui” (ostracism; shunning) and “cherem” (excommunication), Yeshiva World reported.
The threatening posters are signed by the city’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Tzvi Ordentlich – who is technically a government employee.
The three politicians Ordentlich threatened, each one of them a haredi, allegedly reported corruption in the local haredi-controlled government to relevant national government authorities and have threatened to report more wrongdoing unless the wrongdoing is stopped.
Ordentlich believes this is mesira (informing), a crime under halakha (Orthodox Jewish law), and issued his excommunication threat in response.
