This year the Boyaner rebbe spoke about MP3 players, which for the for the past two years have been prohibited by his decree to be used to listen to haredi radio stations. This year, the rebbe added to that ban. Now all Boyaner yeshiva students are prohibited from owning an mp3 player because they allegedly lead to yeshiva students wasting time that should be spent in Torah study.

On the anniversary of the release from prison of the first Sadigura Rebbe (d. 1883), the 23 day of the Hebrew month of Tammuz (which fell on July 10 this year), it became customary for hasidim to reaffirm their individual commitment to follow the customs and decrees of Sadigura and its related hasidic sects, like Boyan.
Yeshiva World reported that in recent years that day in the3 Boyan sect has become “synonymous with the battle against digital players and newspapers.”
Why?
Because when the first Sadigura rebbe was released from prison he had an earache in both ears which was attributed to him allegedly holding a finger in each ear during his police interrogation to avoid hearing the ringing bells of. a neighboring church.
However, students are allowed to use their parents’ mp3 players at home, provided they listen to approved content only through external speakers. Headphones use is not allowed.
