There are now eight criminal complaints against the rabbi for rape and sexual assault and a source described as having “intimate knowledge” of the case told Ha’aretz Monday that yet more victims will almost certainly come forward and file charges against the rabbi. Three new criminal sexual assault complaints were filed Monday night against a well-known Sefat Zionist Orthodox rabbi, Ha’aretz reported.
The rabbi was arrested Thursday evening at Ben-Gurion International Airport as he tried to flee the country.
He is currently in jail on remand until tomorrow, although it is possible his remand could be extended.
Tuesday morning a judge rejected the rabbi's appeal of the charges filed against him. She also ruled the rabbi’s identity can be published in the media, but stayed that ruling until 4:00 pm Wednesday to give the rabbi time to appeal her ruling to the High Court of Justice.
“The investigative materials brought forward in this incident are significant and jarring, and include more than one complaint. Further, there is indication of widespread and systematic harm against other victims,” the judge noted in her ruling.

All eight criminal complaints were filed after three leading rabbis in Sefat, including Sefat’s Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, heard evidence against the rabbi last week and ruled to expel him from the city and sever his contact with the schools he runs there. News of that ruling prompted two women to immediately file criminal complaints against the rabbi, one for a rape that allegedly took place 13 years ago. News of those criminal complaints prompted six other women who say they were sexually assaulted by the rabbi to come forward so far.
Through his attorney, the rabbi denies all the charges against him.
“He’s cooperating fully with the police, giving his complete version. At this point we’ll wait for the conclusion of the investigation. The rabbi believes that this is groundless slander,” the attorney told Ha’aretz last week after the first two criminal complaints against the rabbi were filed with police.
