Two haredi men reportedly fought with two Arab men at about 10:00 pm Monday night on a street on the outskirts of the haredi neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem.
All four men were reportedly arrested by police and were arraigned at Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court Tuesday morning, the Jerusalem Post reported.
On Saturday, haredim from the neighborhood stoned a series of Arab-owned cars, lightly injuring one Arab woman.
In that incident, local Arabs responded to the stoning by stoning the haredim, who turned their attention from stoning Arab cars to stoning the Arab stone-throwers.
Police arrived in time to avert a widespread riot and arrested two haredi males and one Arab male.
Mea Shearim boarders an Arab neighborhood and is located across Highway 1 from the Old City’s Damacus Gate.
Over recent years, haredim in Mea Shearim have repeated rioted against police and against haredi IDF soldiers who have entered the neighborhood to pray or visit friends or family who live there.
Before that, over the decades Mea Shearim occasionally erupted in anti-police violence and sometimes into full scale riots.
