"…The presence of the media and news agencies [at tonight's annexations hearing] is expected, therefore we ask everyone that no one should talk or give any statements to the press! Every extra word can only make things worse rather than better.…"
What follows is a loose, abridged translation of a letter sent by Anshei Shlomeinu D'Kiryas Joel to the residents of Kiryas Joel – a Satmar hasidic village in New York State located in Orange County just north of the New York City metro area that is seeking to annex hundreds of acres of land from an adjoining town. A public hearing on the proposed annexation is scheduled for this evening.
The translation and the letter that follow it were sent together to FailedMessiah.com, and FM can't vouch for the translation's accuracy:
Due to the state requirements for open sessions throughout the annexation procedure that should be open to the public.... It is expected that some of the KJ residents should speak in support of the annexation, to be able to expand the holy borders to ease the growing shortage of apartments.
UM [United Monroe] is trying to arrange a larger attendance of neighbors & politicians who are renowned anti-KJ-child-blessed-citizens fighters, and have promised to do everything to fight the "annexation request" on all fronts. They will probably present hateful speeches, trying to provoke and create chaos in the hall. Therefore it's very important not to become provoked. It's not useful and not important to react on the spot and especially not to belittle and desecrate God's name, just allow everyone to convey their comments in a civil manner.
The presence of the media and news agencies is expected, therefore we ask everyone that no one should talk or give any statements to the press! Every extra word can only make things worse rather than better.
A separate [seating] area is designated for residents of KJ....
It's also possible that disgraceful United Monroe group will continue with their missionary tactics - unfortunately with Jewish help from the KJ Alliance leaders - and will seek to distribute Yiddish literature & pamphlets in the hall or on the surrounding streets, with deceiving and tempting messages. It's important to remind again that nobody should stop and take their material and especially should not to engage in a conversation or debate them. Just totally ignore them!...
