Jerusalem To Vet Future Public Christian Events With City’s Orthodox Rabbinate Before Issuing Permits

The government of the City of Jerusalem has decided to consult the city's Orthodox chief rabbis before approving any public Christian event that might possible include missionary activity, Ynet reported.
Last month, a public event by Christians – who insisted they would not proselytize Jews – was almost banned after haredi rabbis haredi politicians, and the haredi media attacked the city’s government for allowing it and called the event a "major show of forced conversion" to Christianity.
Despite that claim, there is no evidence public proselytizing occurred.
But in the wake of that incident, haredim and the city’s secular mayor, Nir Barkat, reached an agreement which stipulates that the city will consult its “legal advisors” and the city’s “chief rabbis” before issuing permits for any future Christian events that might include “illegal” missionary activity – effectively giving the rabbis a measure of veto power over future Christian events.
For many haredi and right-wing Zionist Orthodox rabbis, almost every conceivable public Christian event is by definition a missionary event, even if no actual proselytizing occurs
