British Government Won’t Take Legal Action Against Hasidic Schools Over Women’s Driving Ban – As Long As Students In Those Hasidic Schools Are Not Expelled Or Otherwise Punished For Their Mother’s Disobedience

The British government’s Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has dropped proceedings against two Belz hasidic schools in North London, the Talmud Torah Machzikei Hadass boys school and the Beis Malka girls school, after getting a “satisfactory response” from Belz leadership, The JC reported.
Last month, Belz leaders warned parents that any children of mothers who defy the sect’s ban on women driving automobiles would be expelled from the schools. That threat was first reported in Hebrew by the Behadrei Haredim news website and then in English by FailedMessiah.com.
In response, the EHRC wrote to the schools, warning them that any such threat was illegal and could prompt government action.
Today the EHRC announced that "the governors of the Talmud Torah Machzikei Hadass School have given the commission a commitment that they will not exclude or refuse admission to any child or apply any other sanction on the basis of their mother driving. We are satisfied with their assurance and are pleased to have avoided any potential legal proceedings.” The EHRC also noted that a similar assurance was also made by Beis Malka’s leadership.
