In Haifa, Ethiopian Jews Protest Racism

Hundreds of Ethiopian Jews protested tonight in Haifa, a police spokeswoman told the AFP.
There were no reports of violence, police said.
One protestor reportedly told media tonight's protest took place “to ensure that members of our community aren't judged solely on the color of their skin by Israeli society.”
Approximately 135,500 Ethiopian Jews live in Israel, and more than a third of them – over 50,000 – were born there.
Large numbers of Ethiopian Jews complain of police racism and brutality, and claim they suffer from institutionalized racism in schools and in interaction with government ministries and agencies – complaints that appear to be more than supported by anecdotal evidence.
