Minutes of a meeting of the Committee of Management of the board of Chabad's Yeshivah Centre in Melbourne, Australia dated August 19, 2014 show that Chabad was attempting not to respond to a lawsuit by a victim of child sex abuse at its Yeshivah College. Chabad used the excuse that the corporate entity which ran Chabad when the abuse took place was different (in name only, it seems) than the current corporate entity. In other words, Chabad was using a legal fiction to try to avoid paying the victim for his damages – damages which are not covered by Chabad's insurance. Also, in all three cases mentioned in this meeting, no mention is made of trying to help these victims or of issuing any type of apology to them. Instead, it's strictly business: who do we pay because insurance covers it and who do we abandon because we can find legal loophole to do so.
