The New York Daily News reported tonight that the parents of a 17-year-old Brooklyn haredi girl are suing a Bais Yaakov high school in Brooklyn for defamation of character after the school expelled their daughter based on a false allegation that she texted a nude selfie to a boy.
The suit, filed in Brooklyn Federal Court, claims the principal and executive director of Lev Bais Yaakov High School failed to do due diligence and did not properly investigate the allegation.
Instead, they expelled the girl and sent an email to the mothers of students in her class saying the girl has a “very serious” problem with her “reputation.”
Those actions allegedly ruined the girl’s reputation in the haredi community.
She “never sent a naked picture of herself to any such boy, or anyone else. The entire story was false,” the family’s attorney, Robert Tolchin, reportedly said.
When contacted by the Daily News, the school’s executive director, Rabbi Shmiel Deutsch, declined to comment.
