Arrest Made In Haredi Mob Attack On IDF Soldier

In late April, a 24-year-old IDF combat officer went to the über haredi Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim to pay a condolence call to one of his soldiers who grandfather had recently passed away and to see another of his soldiers who lives there.
But instead of peaceful shiva visit, the officer was attacked by a mob of haredi children and adults who stoned him and his car, and broke the car’s windows. The IDF officer barely escaped with his life.
As the attack took place the haredi mob screamed slurs at him meant for a haredi soldier, not realizing he is actually Zionist Orthodox and lives on a West Bank settlement near Hebron – which is likely what kept him alive, because the car he was driving, which belongs to his mother, was reinforced against stoning attacks. Even so, some of the car’s windows were shattered and much damage was done to the car’s body.
No arrests were made by police at the time, even though the attack was immediately reported to police.
But Monday night, police reportedly arrested an 18-year-old haredi male in connection with the mob assault. He was arraigned Tuesday morning, and police are said to hoping to make additional arrests in the case.
