Right-Wing Israeli Newspaper Owned By Billionaire Casino Magnate Sheldon Adelson Allegedly Gives Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu Right To Scuttle Headlines He Doesn’t Like

The British newspaper The Economist reported last week that the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is given Israel Hayom newspaper headlines before publication and is allowed to approve or reject them.
“Israel Hayom is a freesheet owned by Sheldon Adelson, a casino mogul and supporter of Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister. Its headlines are routinely approved by the prime minister's office,” The Economist wrote.
According to a report in Ha’aretz, Israel Hayom and Netanyahu’s office deny The Economist’s claim.
"The claim is so outrageous that it doesn't even warrant a response," Israel Hayom said in a statement while the Prime Minister's Office insisted that “no such thing ever happened."
Israel Hayom is distributed for free throughout Israel and has helped weaken and even drive out of business older newspapers that are not free. It is owned outright by right-wing American gambling billionaire Sheldon Adelson, a close supporter of Netanyahu and of the Republican Party in the US.
Adelson is notoriously litigious when he believes he has been wronged in the media.
Even so, representatives for Israel Hayom reportedly told Ha’aretz Israel Hayom had no plans to sue The Economist for defamation or take other legal action.
A British media watch group, UK Media Watch, reportedly contacted The Economist about its claim and was told The Economist is "standing by the claim, which is based on a source who they have full confidence in,” UK Media Watch said.
