Lassana Bathily, a 24-year-old Muslim employee of the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris, likely saved the lives of 15 customers during Friday’s terror attack, Ha’aretz reported based on a report in Buzzfeed.
As the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist Amedy Coulibaly burst into the store, Bathily – who immigrated to France from Mali – hid as many as 15 customers in the store's freezer after they rushed to the basement to avoid the terrorist.
Bathily turned off the freezer’s power and its light, and told the customers to stay inside. Bathily kept lookout outside.
The terrorist killed four people during the attack, all apparently within moments of entering the kosher store.
Hours later, police raided the kosher supermarket and killed the terrorist in a hail of gunfire as he charged toward them, gun blazing.
After the terrorist was killed, the 15 hostages were released from the freezer by police and rushed to safety as police scoured the store for possible accomplices and explosive devices.
Afterward, many of the hostages and others in France praised Bathily for saving their lives. Some did so personally immediately after the police rescue will many more did so soon afterward on social media.
