A 43-year-old resident of Jerusalem returned from Italy and was arrested after he deplaned at Ben-Gurion International Airport.
According to a brief report in Yeshiva World, the man had diamonds hidden in his baggage. Some were wrapped in toilet paper in a bag, some were in a coat and others were in a second piece of luggage.
In all, 13 diamonds reportedly valued at $75,000 in addition to €19,000 and $3,700 in cash were found.
The man claimed to be a legal diamond dealer in Italy.
However, he is not registered as a diamond dealer in Israel, and,only registered diamond dealers are allowed to import diamonds into the country.
