The 101-year-old leader of non-hasidic haredim, Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman, has again ruled that it is forbidden for women to study in college or university – even Orthodox-run colleges and universities because the evil inclanation works through "opinionated" women to ensnare innocent men, and those men might then decide to leave yeshiva and study in university, as well.

The 101-year-old leader of non-hasidic haredim, Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman, has again ruled that it is forbidden to study in college or university – even Orthodox-run colleges and universities, Behadrei Haredim reported.
"Of course it is not allowed to send girls to study [at Orthodox colleges], and it is a duty to insist to that effect [that they not study there].…Certainly no one should go to those places [to study], you must insist to that effect. It is very difficult [to oppose getting a college or university education], but [opposing college and university education] will get a lot of reward in heaven,” Steinman said in response to a question, adding that even the need to make a living does not justify enrolling in even an Orthodox-run college or university.
One of Steinman’s close followers, Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Schneider, noted that Steinman reiterated that there is no difference between married and unmarried women. Both are forbidden from enrolling in college or university.
"You must learn only at Beit Yaakov [haredi schools] where education is conducted entirely in accordance with Orthodoxy,” Steinman continued, adding that the way of the “evil inclination” is to lure “slightly opinionated women” and through them influence and lure men – as it has been done throughout the ages, Steinman insisted.
