Senior Sefardi Haredi Rabbi Says Sefardim Were Spared The Holocaust Because Of Their Torah Study, Rules Soldiers Should Disobey Orders To Evacuate West Bank Settlements

The spiritual leader of Yishai’s new Sefardi Ha’am Itanu Party Rabbi Meir Mazuz reportedly told a follower that Sefardi Jews did not die in the Holocaust because they studied Torah – implying Ashkenazi Jews were murdered by the Nazis because they didn't. Mazuz’s remark is found in a book of his responsa titled Makor Ne'eman, Ha’aretz reported based on a report on Ynet’s Hebrew language website.
The follower asked Mazuz whether Ashkenazi haredi education is better than Sefardi haredi education.
“Why did the Holocaust almost completely spare Sefardi Jews? It is the result of the education of the Holy Torah…,” Mazuz ruled.
Mazuz was asked by another person whether a soldier is allowed to refuse an order to evacuate West Bank settlements.
"Remember what Eichmann said - that he was only a 'small cog' [in the state apparatus],” Mazuz answered, meaning that evacuating West Bank settlements was equivalent to the Holocaust and a soldier saying the role I played in such an evacuation was small, I was only a tiny cog in a big machine, is equivalent to Adolph Eichmann, the architect of Holocaust, who said the same about himself during Nuremberg War Crimes trials.
Yet another questioner asked Mazuz if it was kosher to evade paying taxed.
Mazuz reportedly answered that halakha (Jewish law) says that dina d’malchuta dina (the law of the land is the law) and therefore taxes should be paid – not evaded – except if you are a yeshiva student. If you are, you can evade paying taxes.
