In another misrepresentation of how a democracy is supposed to work, Aaron Weider, a Rockland County lawmaker prominent in the haredi community there, says that if the state appoints a fiscal monitor with veto power over school district spending, that would essentially "invalidate" the voting rights of East Ramapo citizens. What Weider does not say is that the school district appears to have repeatedly violated the NY State open meetings law, misused public funds and disenfranchised minority students – all absolute violations of what democracy is supposed to be and making fiscal oversight necessary.
