Bentzion “Bentzi” Gopstein, the head of the right-wing racist neo-Kahanist group Lehava, was remanded to custody yesterday, Ha’aretz reported.
The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court remanded Gopstei for at least three days Tuesday after he and nine other Lehava members were arrested earlier Tuesday on suspicion of incitement to racist violence.
In a closely related case, the Ministry of Justice said Israel’s attorney general will decide soon whether to add a hate crime enhancement to the arson and related charges against three different Lehava members who have been indicted for allegedly setting the Jerusalem Max Rayne Hand-in-Hand Jewish-Arab school on fire two weeks ago and painting racist, anti-Arab and pro-Kahane slogans on its walls.
