Haredi Women Who Do Not Vote For Official Haredi Political Party Will Be Excommunicated And Their Children Expelled From Haredi Schools, A Senior Haredi Rabbi Says

Rabbi Mordechai Blau, a senior member of the Ashkenazi haredi United Torah Judaism Party (UTJ) and the head of haredi Guardians of Sanctity and Education modesty committee, said today that every woman must vote for UTJ in the upcoming elections, Behadrei Haredim reported. Those who do not do so should in effect be excommunicated and their children expelled from all UTJ-linked schools, Blau insisted.
"I guarantee…to implement all of the above,” Blau said, adding that his threat also applies to men who fail to vote for UTJ.
Blau also said that people who violate the orders of the “gedolim” (literally “the great ones;” the top haredi rabbis) and do not vote for UTJ are not Orthodox.
Blau – who previously banned IDF Purim costumes for children and said that mixed-gender seating on buses and non-gender-segregated sidewalks are suitable only for "low-level" people like "black Africans" – made his remarks after a group of haredi women launched an effort to compel haredi political parties, including UTJ, to have women candidates on their Knesset lists. As it now stands, both major haredi political parties, UTJ and the Sefardi haredi Shas Party, by policy have no female candidates, and top haredi rabbis prohibit women from holding political office.
The Bnei Torah Ashkeanzi haredi breakaway party from UTJ, which is headed by Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, also has no female candidates as a matter of policy.
