A haredi man allegedly affiliated with the violent haredi Sicarii (zealots) group-cum-street-gang was finally arrested in Beit Shemesh today, Behadrei Haredim reported.
The man, who has an alleged history of violence including being suspected of attacking a haredi soldier two years ago, allegedly robbing a newspaper delivery man on Tuesday in the bucolic bedroom suburb of both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
In that attack, a gang of Sicarii members allegedly surrounded the delivery vehicle and blocked its path. Then one of the Sicarii gang members climbed the front car bumper to block driver’s vision and distract him, while the other gang members opened the trunk and stole its contents.
The driver panicked and began to flee. As the vehicle moved forward, the gang member fell off its front bumper and injured his head.
An EMT crew, at least one of whom was a female, and an ambulance arrived at the scene, but the injured haredi gang member refused to be transported to a hospital or treated because he refused to allow a female take care of him. Instead, the man fled.
Because of the circumstances of the attack and its immediate aftermath, he reportedly was the only member of the haredi gang who was identified.
Police went to his house several times, but managed to flee and escape arrest each time – until this afternoon, when police finally caught him.
Two years ago, he was arrested because he was suspected of attacking a haredi IDF.
