After trying and failing to wean Rabbi Yehuda Glick off a respirator, doctors at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem have put Glick back into a medically induced coma, haredi news sources report.
Glick, an American-born Zionist Orthodox rabbi who is a leading activist for Jewish control of the Temple Mount, was shot four time in a terror attack in Jerusalem in front of the Menachem Begin Center two weeks ago.
Glick reportedly asked to put on tefillin (phylacteries) before doctors sedated and intubated him, and doctors waited for Glick to wear the ritual objects before sedating him.
Glick’s assailant, a Jerusalem Arab with ties to Hamas, was killed by Border Police in a shootout only hours after he tried to kill Glick.
The assailant worked a cook in a restaurant in the Begin Center, despite having spent more than a decade in Israeli prison for violent security crimes. It is unclear how he cleared a background check or if a background check was even done.
He allegedly knew Glick and apologized to him, telling Glick he was sorry but “I have to do this,” seconds before pulling the trigger and shooting him four times in the torso.
