An old Binghamton, New York dairy will resume production as Mountain Fresh Dairy, the Press and Sun Bulletin reported. Mountain Fresh will produce Cholov Yisrael kosher products only.
"It's been a long time coming, and we're excited to bring it to fruition," Nathan Hassan, one of four partners behind the new company, reportedly said during a news conference yesterday.
Mountain Fresh hopes to hire 85 to 90 employees over the next 2 ½ years.
There is no official stat-date for production but Hassan said Mountain Fresh expects to start testing production at the facility within a month.
The plant has been vacant for more than two years.
Mountain Fresh Dairy bought the vacant plant for $150,000 in April 2013 and spent the rest of that year getting $400,000 in loans — $200,000 each from the Broome County IDA and the Binghamton Local Development Corporation — to purchase new machinery and equipment.
Mountain Fresh has reportedly invested a total of approximately $2 million in the plant to get it ready for production.
Production will start with milk, which will be the primary item produced at the plant. Eventually, Mountain Fresh hopes to expand to production of Greek yogurt and hard cheeses, as well.
Mountain Fresh products will reportedly be distributed in New York, Miami, Baltimore and Philadelphia.
