The mayor of the Israeli port city of Ashkelon, Itamar Shimoni, uses Jim Crow KKK-like tactic to continue to skirt Israel's anti-racism law.
Israeli Mayor, Charged With Racism And Nazi-Like Behavior, Doubles Down

Last week, the mayor of the Israeli port city of Ashkelon, Itamar Shimoni, banned Israeli Arab construction workers from working in or near city schools on an ongoing project to build reinforced safe rooms to shelter children and staff during rocket attacks.
Shimoni banned the Arab workers because of what he said was a heightened risk that some of them might be terrorists who could use their access to attack children.
That drew wide condemnation across the Israeli political spectrum from right to left – except from haredim, right-wing Zionist Orthodox, and extreme rightist secular politicians. For example, Jerusalem’s centrist, right-leaning secular mayor, Nir Barkat, equated Shimoni’s ban with the Nazi’s infamous Nuremberg Laws, and Israel’s prime minister and president both condemned Shimoni’s action.
In response Shimoni reportedly lifted his ban and announced that the Arab workers can return to the schools work with one catch – a catch that continues to reinforce the perception of Israeli racism.
The children will not be in the schools when the Arab Israelis are working there.
Instead, the children will study in local community centers rather than in their schools to keep them far away from the Israeli Arabs.
